עקמומית

עַקְמוּמִיתf. (preced. wds.) 1) curve. Erub.14a עַקְמוּמִיתָהּ חוץ למבוי if the curved portion (of the beam placed over the entrance) is outside the alley. Ib. כל שאילו תינטל עקמומיתהוכ׳ Ms. M. if, after the curved portion is taken off, there remains a gap of less than Y. ib. I, 19a bot. וחוא שתהא ע׳ מן הצד provided the curve is sideways; ע׳ שהיא מעכבתוכ׳ a curve which obstructs the alley. Y.Ab. Zar. I, 40a bot. דרך ע׳ היתה it was a tortuous road (on which he met her); Y.Ber.IX, 13c top עקמומיתה (corr. acc.); a. e.Pl. עַקְמוּמִיּוֹת. Y.Erub.I, 18c bot. אלו … דרך ע׳וכ׳ those living on this side of the alley make use of the curves (on this side of the wall), and those living on the other side make use of the curves (on the other side) 2) ambush, hiding place (by the wayside).Pl. as ab. Till. to Ps. 7:9 כתומי ולא כעַקְמִימוּתִי according to my simplicity, but not according to my insidiousness (sin). 4) (v. next w.) hump; trnsf. haughtiness. Ber.59a לא נבראו רעמים אלא לפשוט ע׳ שבלב (Ms. F. לפסוק עקמומיות, pl.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 400) the thunders were created to level (to cut off) the protuberance (protuberances) of the heart (to break mans pride).
